Gift Guides 2019: VSCO Girls

***Post contains affiliate links. This means I earn a small commission off of purchases made through the links***

In case you have been living under a rock VSCO girls are the new It Girl for teens and tweens. They pledge to "Save the Turtles" and bare an uncanny resemblance to 90s teens which brings me no small amount of laughter. I've rounded up some items that are SURE to put a smile on the Mario Badescu spritzed face of your favorite VSCO girl. So grab a drink in your Hydroflask (don't forget your metal straw!), put up your Birkenstock clad feet, and adjust your scrunchies because we are going to "and I oop" our way to good holiday vibes!

Overcoming the Prison of Perfectionism and Walking My Way To A Healthier Me

***Post contains affiliate links. This means I earn a small commission off of purchases made through the links***

Thanks to my friends at Tioseban for sponsoring this post.

Perfectionism can be a prison. What I realized is that SOMETHING is more often than not better than nothing. Walking is better than sitting, getting a few posts done is better than none, and grading one paper is better than grading zero papers. I've been working very hard to allow myself the grace to do some things just so-so.

I've been so busy between mom life, blogging, and teaching that I let my health get put on the back burner. When you have multiple autoimmune diseases like I do this is NOT a good thing. I've been struggling to find time for exercise and after listening to some podcasts I realized something about myself. I live in a prison of perfectionism of my own creation. If I can't do something *perfect* I freeze up and can't do it at all.

This is no way to live. Let me tell you friends, this revelation has been life changing. Before if I couldn't run 3-4 miles I just wouldn't run. My body doesn't always cooperate and sometimes my joints hurt entirely too much for running to even be possible. So I stayed sedentary and it became a vicious cycle.

What I realized is that SOMETHING is more often than not better than nothing. Walking is better than sitting, getting a few posts done is better than none, and grading one paper is better than grading zero papers. I've been working very hard to allow myself the grace to do some things just so-so.

Toys r Us is BACK!

***Post contains affiliate links. This means I earn a small commission off of purchases made through the links***

Tru Kids Brands™ (which are the new owners of the Toys R Us Brand) partnered with Target to provide their new online service.

Last year when Toys R Us closed it broke my heart. It felt like a piece of my childhood was lost forever. So I would be a big fat liar if I said I wasn't excited that they are officially back online! AND it's just in time for the holidays.

Tru Kids Brands™ (which are the new owners of the Toys R Us Brand) partnered with Target to provide their new online service. Per a press release, "ToysRUs.com relaunched today with videos and articles on the latest toy trends and brands. It has in-depth product reviews, hot toy lists to help shoppers pick out the perfect toys and gifts for kids of all ages. Ready to buy something? The site will automatically link you to the same product page on Target.com to make the purchase."

I did some poking around on the new site and basically it funnels to Target with a "buy now at Target" button. You then complete your purchase at Target.com like you normally would. There are also toy trend lists, printables, and DIY activity ideas.

"This fall, Toys“R”Us will open experiential retail stores in Houston, Texas, and Paramus, New Jersey—specially designed to help families make memories as they discover the hottest new toys in person." If the item you want isn't in stock associates will help your order it online from Target.

I have to be honest, I was hoping for a bit more on the online side but perhaps this will pave the way for more services and experiences in the future. I'm very interested in seeing what the response is to the new brick and mortar stores. What are your thoughts? Are you excited about the new TRU?

Styling A Long Sweater Three Ways for Fall

***Post contains affiliate links. This means I earn a small commission off of purchases made through the links***

I show you three ways to style my new favorite sweater from Old Navy. The length is perfect- long enough to wear with leggings but not so long that it looks like a dress. The material is soft and the fit is true to size.

I keep dumping pumpkin spice in my coffee but apparently that's not enough to get Mother Nature to take a hint and give us sweater weather. That's ok; I'm not going to let a little thing like 95* temps stop me from styling my new favorite sweater. I just cranked the AC down for a bit lol. I saw this Old Navy Sweater on a bunch of my blogging friends who all raved about how great it was. So, naturally, I ordered two of them! After trying it on I quickly saw what all the fuss was about. The length is perfect- long enough to wear with leggings but not so long that it looks like a dress. The material is soft and the fit is true to size.

When styling it I played around with tucking it in but ultimately decided to keep it long. I like the continuity with the pictures plus the length is probably my favorite part of the sweater and I wanted to feature it. I have it in both pink and squash but decided to style the pink one for this post.

Hot Toys 2019

***Post contains affiliate links. This means I earn a small commission off of purchases made through the links***

Predictions for the hot toys of 2019. Knowing what’s predicted to be popular is, in my opinion, incredibly valuable information if you want to avoid the craziness that often hits in November. I don’t recommend anyone rush out and buy everything on the list but if there’s something you KNOW your kid can’t live without it would behoove you to grab it early before the insanity ensues.

It feels completely unreal that I’m writing this post already! Does anyone else feel like this year is flying by? But here we are; it’s almost the end of August which means all the new toys for the holiday season will start being released. Predicting what toys will be hot for the holidays is far from an exact science and often I feel a lot like professor Trelawny in Harry Potter with my guesses. But, last year’s post WAS pretty spot on.

Normally I’m further ahead on my Christmas shopping than I am now. We just had a round of birthdays and we feel overrun with toys right now so it’s hard to justify grabbing things when I don’t feel like they NEED anything. They also are at ages where interests are fleeting so I’m not sure what will be THE toy this year where as last year at this time my oldest had already settled on Nerf Laser Shooters. If I’m completely honest it’s driving me a little batty because I like to be prepared. So… do as I say and not as I do and be prepared early.

Baby Shark x Fingerlings

If you were in my Daily Deal Detectives group 2 years ago you will remember the craziness of Fingerling stockings. I feel like I spent endless hours randomly checking product pages hoping to catch them for my readers and the endless refreshing of pages still haunts me. All of the other Baby Shark crossover toys have been pretty popular and I suspect this one will follow suit.

Avoid Morning Meltdowns! How We Organize School Clothes For The Week

Avoid Morning Meltdowns how we organize school clothes for the week

I'm almost hesitant to write this post because I'm afraid of jinxing myself lol. BUT I think we have a system that is going to work for D and for me and I'm excited. Elementary school starts ridiculously early here so having as many systems in place to save time and tantrums are a MUST! This is by far the most elaborate of those systems but I feel the investment on Sunday night is well worth the payoff.
